Week in Bergun is over and what a wonderful week it was! Beautiful weather, good milongas, shows, and orquesta Todo Tango on Friday night! In the farewell picture from left Solange, Gonzalo, Pasi, Maria, Claudia, Martin, Jelena and Dominik.

Bergunin tangohiihtoviikko on onnellisesti ohitse. Ilmat suosivat ja milongat ja showt olivat viihdyttäviä! Viimeisenä iltana Todo Tango soitti ja bileet jatkuivat pitkälle aamuun. Läksiäiskuvassa ylhäältä Solange, Gonzalo, Pasi, Maria, Claudia, Martin, Jelena ja Dominik.

Finnische Tango in Bergun

Three days of Finnish tango classes in Bergun are over. Thank you all guys for great effort and enthusiasm! Classes were fun and your work and progress was fantastic!!! Finland welcomes you to visit anytime.
We promised you information of the essentials of Finnish tango music. The easiest way definitely is to go to iTunes-store and search for 'suomalainen tango' and look for '20 Suosikkia / Suuret Suomalaiset Tangot' . There are four volumes of tangos, some of them originally Finnish, some originally international or from Argentina. Nevertheless always played in Finnish style and sung in Finnish.



The songs we played mostly in the classes were:
Satumaa, Kangastus and Tähdet meren yllä by Reijo Taipale,
Erottamattomat and Syvä kuin meri by Esko Rahkonen,
The very slow tango was Soi maininki hiljainen by Merja Raski
Tangos in Swedish were sung by Arja Saijonmaa.

Maria reminds and encourages you to try Finnish tango steps to all music you hear!!!

Hard work and serious fun in the mountains/vuoristotyötä ja -huvituksia

What a wonderful day! Snowing the whole day and in the evening clear sky and full moon! After classes in Bergun, driving to Luzern, teaching there, and getting back, we had one of the highlights of the week! Schlittel by night!

Mahtava päivä! Koko päivän satoi lunta ja illaksi taivas kirkastui ja täysikuu paistoi vuorten yllä! Kuin olisi ollut marsissa (joka muuten on poistunut kaksosten tähtikuviosta ja saapunut härkään. Loistavan kirkkaana!!!). Ja illalla yksi koko viikon kohokohtia, kelkkailua yöllä! Eikä mikä tahansa pikkuinen kelkkamäki!


10-15 minutes speeding like crazy down the several kilometers long sledgeroute! Even though it was hair-raising we believe everybody got down without several injuries (this time). One of the survivors was Solange (here with Maria) (who also survived).

10-15 minuuttia hiuksia nostattavaa vauhtia ja vaaratilanteita! Vaikka riskit olivat suuret, tietääksemme kaikki selvisivät ilman hoitoa kaipaavia vammoja. Yksi terveenä ja yhtenä kappaleena selvinneistä oli Solange, tässä Marian kanssa (joka myös selvisi vammoitta)

Tangowintersport in Bergun/ Talviurheilutangoa Bergunissa

Muscles hurting from snowboarding (muscle hangover) and toes hurting from a late night milonga (normal hangover?) people come to the beautiful jugend style main hall for the tango classes. Jelena or Pasi leads the morning workout, and then one of the three teaching couples continue with argentine tango. There is a women's technique class every day, and in the end of the week there is also Finnish tango classes! We are still waiting for the 4th teacher couple to arrive later this week.

Talviurheilu auttaa ihmisia loytamaan uusia lihaksia kropastaan, ja naita lihaksia he voivat edelleen harjoittaa tangotunneilla. Mikäli lihakset, varpaat tai pää särkee myöhäisen milongan vuoksi, ne parannetaan Pasin tai Jelenan kosmisella aamujumpalla. Aamujumpan jälkeen seuraajat pääsevät treenaamaan omia asioitaan hurmaavien tangueranaistemme Jelenan, Claudian, Marian ja Solangen johdolla, samalla kun viejät (yleensä miehet) juovat kahvia tai jatkavat nukkumistaan. The first three days have gone by very fast. The weather has been amazing, a lot of snow, and the sun is shining. This morning some people went snowwalking with tennis rackets, while other people were sleeping... The winter sport injury count is so far one bruised cheeck, and one swollen lip. We haven't done any sports yet, because we have been teaching a lot: volcadas, colgadas, special tricks, and how to hold your partner gently. There are many advanced dancers, and we have had the pleasure of teaching quite advanced stuff! Fun!

Ensimmaiset paivat ovat menneet hyvin nopeasti, upeat ilmat ja paljon lunta! Ja paljon toita Pasilla ja Marialla, mukavaa! Olemme opettaneet volcadoita, colgadoita, polkkadoita - ups, ei niita - vaikeita temppuja, ja kuinka kohdella paria lempeasti. Taalla on kaiken tasoisia tanssijoita: juuri aloittaneita, mtta myoskin useita edistyneita pareja. Suomesta taalla on urhea kahden hengen ryhma, Juha ja Anu, jotka olivat taalla jo viime vuonna ja tulivat nyt uudestaan!

Our new life in Switzerland

Ooh, Maria likes the central European winter! Sun, +9C warm, a light winter coat and nice boots and fancy gloves, and snow on the distant mountains... The mountains will not be so distant for long, because we are leaving for Bergun tomorrow!!!

But first let's take a look at our life in Zurich.
We arrived on Wednesday with a decent amount of luggage...

Today we went to practice in the beautiful TanzHaus, and worked with our friends Dominik and Jelena to prepare for the festival in Bergun.
A long day of work makes you hungry...



...but Swiss food makes you oh so happy!!!

Milonga La Tortuga 11.1.2008

Happy new year to you all!!!!!

We had a great start for this year: we started our own little milonga!!! The legendary Milonga La Tortuga saw the light of the day the night of January the 4th. We had 31 dancers, the floor was full most of the time and the party lasted for 7 hours!!!!! We had visitors from all over Finland and also from Argentina and China!!!



Next week we continue the tradition: Milonga La Tortuga at 20h30 Friday the 11th. City of Oulunsalo, near Oulu, Finland. See co-organizers homepage www.oulunsalotango.net for map. Argentine tango, walz and milonga, with salsa and swing for cortinas!!! Welcome!!! Practica at 19h, same place. 4e.

Ensi perjantaina 11.1. on jälleen mahdollisuus vaipua hulluun tangohurmioon La Tortugassa!!! Argentiinalaista tangoa, milongaa ja valssia niin pitkään kuin tanssihaluisia milongueroja ja merirosvoja riittää! Soitetaan 4 biisin tandoja, joiden välissä yhden kappaleen cortina swingiä tai salsaa. Lainsuojattomat kohtaavat Oulunsalon Nuorisoseuran talolla Oulunsalon keskustassa.
